From: Elliot Jay Tanzer
Dear fellow astrologer and student of astrology,
It has been over thirty years since Jim Lewis introduced his ground breaking and award winning Astro*Carto*Graphy Map format. An idea that had been discussed by astrologers for generations and, as a result of the then new advances in computer capability, was finally available for anyone to have.
Yet, over the years, I have been truly amazed at how few professional astrologers and astrology students have actually explored their Astro*Carto*Graphy Maps to discover what planetary line they are actually living on? Many seem not even curious. I find this particularly puzzling, as many of these same astrologers will obsess over the chart of the latest plane crash or political candidate. You would think they might want to know a little bit more about their own astrological reality?
Then there are the few, who after having purchased a Jim Lewis' Astro*Carto*Graphy Map might shrug and mumble some vague remark, "Yeah, the Map told me to live in Butte, Montana or Tulsa, Oklahoma, and that ain't happening." Or they believe they are looking for places that a planetary line goes right through without any understanding of how wide an 'orb' a planetary line might have. And then of course there are some of these otherwise fine astrologers (such as my self), after actually reading Jim Lewis' Astro*Carto*Graphy Manual, thought they knew what they were doing and began advising clients on where in the world they should live!
What most of these otherwise fine astrologers do not know (and which I didn't know until 1996) is that only a few years after publishing the Astro*Carto*Graphy Manual, based on his further observations and client feed back, Jim Lewis realized his initial recommendations were far too conservative. Then, in his later writings and in his Astro*Carto*Graphy Certification Course, Jim revised his recommendation of how to convert hundreds of miles into fractions of an inch. Which is, after all, the key to accurate Astro*Carto*Graphy Map evaluation.
Unfortunately, Jim died before changing the information in the Astro*Carto*Graphy Manual, which under copyright laws is considered a historical documentary and can not be altered. As most astrologers never got the 'memo,' they continue to under evaluate the influence of the planetary lines.
It is due to this lapse in public awareness that I was motivated to make available what can be considered the 'secret ingredient' of accurate Astro*Carto*Graphy Map evaluations - that is how to determine how close is close enough to enjoy the benefits, for example, of Venus or Jupiter, while far enough away to avoid the burdensome influences of, for example, Saturn or Pluto - that is, how to accurately convert hundreds of miles into fractions of an inch. After all, we are measuring vibrational influence and not something solid. That is, the vibration gets weaker the further away we go. Question is: how far away is finally far enough? Or, how close can we get and be close enough? And that's it, the secret to accurate Astro*Carto*Graphy Map evaluations is in the measurements.
Whether you're new to Astro*Carto*Graphy,
or read Jim Lewis' Astro*Carto*Graphy Manual, my training manual,
Evaluating Astro*Carto*Graphy Maps:
Finding the Best Places to Live & Travel - Your Step by Step Guide
will provide you with the missing link
and show you how to accurately interpret Astro*Carto*Graphy Maps.
Likewise, as a professional astrologer since 1973, once I heard about Astro*Carto*Graphy Maps, I ordered mine, read the Manual, it seemed pretty obvious, and ordered an occasional Map if requested by a client. However, it was not until 1996 when I was invited to give a lecture at the 2nd International Feng Shui Conference, when toward the end of my lecture on various feng shui applications that I thought to introduce Astro*Carto*Graphy Maps to the feng shui community as Global Feng Shui.
After all, feng shui people want to know not just how to decorate a house to achieve and maintain harmony, but also the best way to construct and even the best way to position a house on a piece of property. And now here was an even bigger piece of the feng shui puzzle: where in the world are the best geographical locations to choose to live and how does the geographical location influence health, relationship harmony and the quality of life. Wow!
Immediately after the lecture, and for many weeks after the Conference, the demand for Astro*Carto*Graphy Map consultations kept coming in making Astro*Carto*Graphy Maps consultations a major feature of my astrological services. Since then, I have averaged over a hundred Astro*Carto*Graphy Map evaluations a year! Though mostly word of mouth referrals, to keep interest going even during lectures on other subjects, I always mentioned Astro*Carto*Graphy Maps and hand out a reprint of an article I wrote on Astro*Carto*Graphy Maps for attendees to read afterwards. I also send out this same article to various holistic health and conscious living publications that now can be found in even the smallest of towns across the nation. It's these responses and referrals over the years that have kept me working as a professional astrologer.
After all, if someone has been struggling with their health and seems to continually repeat the same problems in relationships over and over again, and suddenly discovers that there may be another location where their health will improve and relationship harmony can finally be attained, the desire to know is too good to ignore. Of course I am always very clear to inform my clients that just as a move won't make them taller or shorter, their health and or relationship issues won't like magic just disappear.
However, as has been my experience personally, and as I have gotten feed back from clients over the years, the new location will provide a more supportive environment for healing both the body and the emotions. And it is not always about financial success, as financial success can be obtained on any line. But rather it is about one's enjoyment of the success that has been achieved, and how well we handle whatever ups and downs might come our way. Ultimately, it is all about how well we live our lives.
And my book is filled with Case Histories to illustrate what can, and has happened, as a result of someone's relocation: a diagnosis for heart surgery on a Pluto line turned into polyps on the larynx irritating the heart being removed after getting a second opinion on a Venus line, twelve cavities for an eight year old on a Saturn line, after moving to a Jupiter line has resulted in not one cavity in ten years, and so forth and so on.
Given the sudden and remarkable increase in demand for Astro*Carto*Graphy Map readings, I thought it prudent to hone my skills by reading what else had been written. It was only then that I discovered my own mistake to think I knew what I was doing simply by reading Jim Lewis' original Astro*Carto*Graphy Manual.
It wasn't until after I consumed all written material available, including Jim Lewis' Certification Course, that I realized, though the topic of measurement was discussed by a few writers, the information wasn't readily assessable in their books - and what was needed was an actual training manual. It was with this in mind that I structured my Step by Step Guide to first demonstrate proper conversion of miles to fractions of an inch or degree in an easy to do format in a manner that even the lay person could follow; and which would teach the professional and student of astrology how to correctly evaluate the influence of the planetary lines found on an Astro*Carto*Graphy Map, so they can confidently do Astro*Carto*Graphy Map readings for their clients as well.
Prepping a Map: In my Step by Step Guide I also share the methodology I have developed over the years for prepping an Astro*Carto*Graphy Map to personalize the results for the individual client. So the client can clearly see, not just a city here or there, but which large areas that lie between specific latitudes and longitudes that would be considered most favorable for them.
Risk Assessment: Though Jim Lewis' interpretation of the planetary lines are excellent, I thought I would not only share my own 'thumbnail sketches' on the influences of each planetary line, but take it a step further and divide those interpretations into the positive and likely negative probabilities, a kind of Risk Assessment, commenting on the likelihood of which planets are more likely to be favorable, and under what circumstances not so favorable.
Health Changes: Given my many years as a student of alternative and holistic health modalities, you will find this is also the first book to discuss the health implications that are associated with living on each of the planetary line.
Results onto a World Atlas: Then, as the Astro*Carto*Graphy Map lacks clear geographical boundaries and only gives the location of a few major cities around the world, in the final step I demonstrate how to transpose the Astro*Carto*Graphy Map latitude and longitude results onto a World Atlas. In this way the client can clearly see the actual geographical area that is being recommended as most favorable, which then enables them to make an informed decision as to whether they want to live in a big or small city, in the mountain or near a body of water, and so forth.
Case Histories: Finally, I bring it all to completion with a chapter of Case Histories, many of which are indicative of how I came to some of my conclusions about which planets are desirable, and which should be avoided, if at all possible.
Dual UK and USA Formats: There is also an alternative Step by Step chapter on how to prep the 'Latitude Crossings' (which are used to fine tune the planetary lines) for those who might purchase their Astro*Carto*Graphy Map from the USA franchise, and the slightly different formatted version for those maps obtained from the UK franchise.
Other Stuff Some Astrologers Might Want to Know: Then for the student of astrology, there is a last section that should answer some technical questions as to why to use In Mundo, the difference between an Astro*Carto*Graphy Map and a Relocated Natal Chart to how to set up your computer to record your sessions on a CD, followed by a comprehensive Bibliography of all books available on the subject of Locational Astrology - all of which I highly recommend for those who want to know everything there is to know.
Color Illustrations: All the Step by Step instructions are illustrated in color with maps taken from my files, and I have chosen a layflat binding, so the book will stay open and can be easily used as a workbook.
There is no other training manual that explains a method of evaluation in a Step by Step format. No other training manual gives a Risk Assessment of the influences of each of the planetary lines, no other training manual elaborates on the health implications of each of the lines, and no other training manual demonstrates a methodology of personalizing the Astro*Carto*Graphy Maps to bring them graphically alive. In short, there is no other training manual like this one.
No other training manual takes you by the hand
and walks you through the process Step by Step.
As mentioned, I encourage you to read all other books written about Astro*Carto*Graphy. If you are a serious student, you should want to know what other authorities have to add to the Astro*Carto*Graphy pool of knowledge. However, as you will discover, almost all other books are about Astro*Carto*Graphy theory - the whys - and though one or two mention the hows, no book provides the details and nuances of Astro*Carto*Graphy Map interpretation as I do. It is that simple. If you are serious about learning Astro*Carto*Graphy, you want my training manual, which is like having me as your personal trainer guiding you all the way.
Just think about it: my training manual is the equivalent of taking a workshop on Astro*Carto*Graphy Maps with someone who has the experience of having done well over 1500 map evaluations, has honed his skills, has developed a viable methodology to personalize the material, and can answer all your questions as a professional astrologer who wants to do his or her very best when giving a consultation. Not this vague, simplistic: "Go to Mercury to write a book," or, "Go to Venus to fall in love" stuff. Or, "Jupiter goes through Dogpatch, you'll find happiness if you live there."
And consider this a rare opportunity,
as this equivalent of an 'Astro*Carto*Graphy Workshop' can be done
without the additional cost of air travel and a hotel room!
With my training manual you can acquire the skill needed to accurately evaluate an
Astro*Carto*Graphy Map at your leisure and in the comfort of your home.
And though the price of my training manual after April 15, and as posted on the astronumerics.com website (the only franchised distributor of Astro*Carto*Graphy Maps in the western hemisphere), will be $49.95 - the pre-publication price for members of ISAR, NCGR, AFAN, AFA, readers of The Mountain Astrologer magazine, and anyone else connected to astrology is at a 25% discount for only $37.00 plus $3 s&h (additional postage will apply for orders outside the U.S.A. Books will be available in Europe through Equinox Astrology, and on their website: equinoxastrology.com).
Let me show you at a fraction of the cost of
Jim Lewis' Certification Course,
how to accurately interpret Astro*Carto*Graphy Maps
to find the best location for you to live,
while increasing your income as an astrologer at the same time.
“In his workbook on Astro*Carto*Graphy Maps, Elliot Jay Tanzer, well known for his work with Feng Shui, presents a clear Step by Step approach to understanding and working with A*C*G Maps, clarifying many of the questions that may arise from reading the pioneering work of the late Jim Lewis.
Elliot guides us easily and skillfully through the crucial information astrologers need to be familiar with when using A*C*G Maps. Starting with the basic principles of A*C*G Map analysis, Elliot reminds us of their overall purpose, "revealing your unique chemistry with different areas around the world and how a given location might affect who you are and who you are becoming". This chapter gives clear answers in easy to read paragraphs to a multitude of questions re the use of A*C*G Maps, including: how soon planetary energy is experienced, karma, relationships, remote activation, and the connection with transits and progressions.
This latest book by Elliot…is a practical, easy to read, Step by Step guide on understanding Astro*Carto*Graphy Maps. Elliot focuses in detail on one of his two main objectives in writing this workbook - the most accurate orb of influence of each planetary line, as well as how to actually carry out the measurements when looking at the A*C*G Map. This workbook is an excellent tool to assist astrologers at all levels to fill any knowledge gaps in the complex art of interpreting A*C*G Maps.”

“Elliot Tanzer's Evaluating Astro*Carto*Graphy Maps will be appreciated by many readers, from lay people with an interest in their A*C*G Map to professional astrologers who want to have more confidence in analyzing A*C*G Maps for their clients. The author includes all that is needed for this book to serve as a well-rounded text on the subject.”
~~~Mary Plumb, review in
The Mountain Astrologer, Sept./Oct. 2009
“Tanzer provides excellent maps and samples to clarify his discussion. He also provides a very clear explanation of latitude crossings. A good bibliography rounds out the book....If you're less interested in the whys than the how-tos and want to get a better handle on actually working with the maps…have a look at this book….You won't find a clearer explanation of measurement anywhere.”
You might ask, "Why not use home computer software to generate an AstroMap, and save the whole $15?" Let me suggest a few reasons. Though the maps generated on software for home computers are accurately calculated, they are printed on an 8 1/2 x11 piece of paper and almost half the size of an official Jim Lewis formatted Astro*Carto*Graphy Map. This means converting hundreds of miles into fractions of an inch ends up being 1/16 or even 1/32 of an inch. Needless to say, as we are measuring vibration, and not something solid, much of the refinement is lost.
Also, notice I referred to these maps as 'AstroMaps' and not Astro*Carto*Graphy Maps, or even A*C*G Maps, as Astro*Carto*Graphy is a registered trademark. So, though not enforced, it is illegal to refer to most of those 'other maps' as Astro*Carto*Graphy Maps, or even to use these 'other maps' to counsel a client and advertise you do Astro*Carto*Graphy Map readings, as you really are not. Apart from this legal technicality, the $15 cost of the Astro*Carto*Graphy Map can easily be passed along to your client as a Materials Fee to be billed in addition to your professional fee. And besides, Astro*Carto*Graphy Maps come in a distinctive folder and are printed in color on quality paper, making a professional looking package to give your client, along with the CD recording of the consultation session.
Jim Lewis' formatted A*C*G Maps can be obtained in North and South America from Astro Numeric Service, (www.astronumerics.com) or in Europe, Africa, and Australasia from Equinox Astrology (www.astrocartography.co.uk).
“Elliot Jay Tanzer's Evaluating Astro*Carto*Graphy Maps is a major contribution to the important field of relocation astrology. His approach to key topics such as planetary combinations and crossing lines demonstrates his wealth of experience, astrological expertise and skills as a teacher and communicator. I highly recommend this book to anyone working with Astro*Carto*Graphy Maps.”
~~~Jeff Jawer, astrologer, writer,
publisher of StarIQ.com
“This Step by Step Guide is an important companion to the A*C*G Map Kit as it explains how to find suitable locations anywhere in the world. In fact, the method revealed in this Step by Step Guide is the exact technique I've been using myself for over 20 years….What really impressed me is that Elliot has explained this method in such a way that it is very easy to understand. Highly recommended.”

Where in the World with Astro*Carto*Graphy?
“Elliot Jay Tanzer's, Evaluating Astro*Carto*Graphy Maps is excellent. It allows novice readers a simple…window into their "places" in the world. We all have a location and time of birth, but we are not limited to that place, since the planets are simply seen in different parts of the world at the same time - it is where they are in those other places that allows us to express parts of ourself otherwise not active, or simply waiting to be enlivened.…Tanzer's book…gives an insight to A*C*G that makes the apparent complexity truly comprehensible! And, too, it is for the initiated astrologer, who…wants a good, sharp, short and thorough manual. I recommend this book highly to all levels of readers . . . .”
